New Pretty Lights Album out July 2 - "A Color Map of the Sun"

Pretty Lights' latest album "A Color Map of the Sun" will drop July 2! And it will be available for free at www.prettylightsmusic.com as has all of his albums - but only on the DAY OF RELEASE! This album, if the latest single ("Around the Block" ft. Talib Kweli) and this album trailer is any indication, will stay true to Pretty Lights vintage sound. What's different is that this album will be original recordings with live instruments, written by Derek and his collaborators.

Pretty Lights - The Day Is Gone

New Pretty Lights track - "The Day Is Gone" !!! Pretty Lights at his best, chillin w/ a dash of bass, funk and electro hop .... bring this down w/ the best and the crown...

Pretty Lights - You Get High

Pretty Lights has been busy, playing festivals and concerts all over the country while producing his online podcast/radio show The Hot Shit and recently releasing a new single "You Get High" that does just that - gets you high on life in Pretty Lights style.

This Pretty Lights track is true to form in what we've come to expect from him - steady hip hop beats laying the foundation for a perfectly mixed mash of funk, electronica (lighter dubstep in this case) and glitched up vocal samples. According to Pretty Lights, this is the last single he's dropping before releasing a brand new album this summer on his own label, Pretty Lights Music. I'll be sure to share the release date on my blog or via the Downbeatscape Twitter handle when it is announced.

REGENERATION MUSIC PROJECT Review + Downloads: Pretty Lights, Mark Ronson, Skrillex, Crystal Method, DJ Premier

Go see REGERENATION:MUSIC PROJECT - the documentary about today's premier hip hop and electro producers, DJs and artists and what happens when they pair them with historic music figures to create unorthodox tracks. I saw it last Thursday (its only being shown two Thursdays this month in select cities).

Its a great documentary for so many reasons. One - the music is awesome. Two - the DJs/Producers/Artists showcased are incredible. Three - it gives an intriguing glimpse into how these artists create music. It shows them creating the environment they need to generate ideas and to just riff and collaborate with others until something really cool forms. Four - it is a really fun exploration of the opportunities and challenges of Old School and New School coming together to make music. Overall, the documentary was really interesting and done really well. It tells a great story and keeps your attention for an hour and a half.

You can Download the songs that Skrillex, DJ Premier, Crystal Method, Pretty Lights and Mark Ronson produce in the documentary for free here. They're all great:

New Pretty Lights Electro Downtempo Remix of Run DMC's "It's Tricky"

I've been a bit in love w/ everything Pretty Lights has been doing these days - and I'm not apologizing for it. His sound is representative of the downtempo electro fusions that inspired this blog several years ago and represent what I love about the future-sounds of music. Check out Pretty Lights' new remix of Run DMC's classic "It's Tricky" - some fine listening.
